In studies performed at the Respiratory Virology Branch, Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta, Georgia, Monolaurin was found effective against 14 human RNA and DNa enveloped viruses in cell culture. These included influenza, RSV, Rubeola, Newcastle's,Coronavirus, Herpes simplex types 1 & 2, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV and cytomegalovirus. In addition to its antiviral effects, it has antibacterial activity against Staph. aureus, Strep agalactiae, Groups A, F & G strep., Chlymydia, H. pylori and against yeast and fungi as well including candida and ringworm.

Monolaurin is the most potent monoglyceride bactericidal against H. pylori and was not pH dependent. FEMS Immunol. Med. Micrbiology. 2003 (1-2): 9-17

New research found that when human cells were exposed to a common adenovirus-36 that caused colds and pinkeye they turned to fat cells and stored fat. Hypothesis - will killing them with monolaurin make a difference. Of course over-eating and inactivity are still the major cause.
